The players include the finest musicians from our area and beyond performing music from the historic big bands (Ellington/Basie/ Dorsey) to more modern bands (Buddy Rich, Thad Jones, Rob McConnell. Gordon Goodwin, Bob Mintzer) as well as original music and arrangements from members and friends. Originally named the River City Big Band, the HJC Big Band is happy to have the West Shore Theatre as our new venue for regular performances to go along with our new name. The Harrisburg Jazz Collective Big Band will be featuring guest artists with the band at our regular West Shore appearances and performing holiday concerts in December. There is no admission fee, although I will be passing around a donation box with all the proceeds going to the musicians, with a recommended minimum donation of $20 per adult attendee. We have four confirmed musicians, three of whom are regular performers with the Harrisburg Jazz Collective: The concert will consist of two one-hour sets with a 30-minute intermission between sets. The concert will end around 8:00 p.m. Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, utensils, lawn chairs (or towels), and insect repellent. Pets are not permitted, no exceptions.

Your ticket includes both the concert and a pre-show wine and cheese reception. The performance will run approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, including a brief intermission. The PA All-Star “Keystone Jazz Septet”, directed by award winning Scranton based drummer, educator, artistic director Marko Marcinko, brings some of the top PA jazz musicians together to pay tribute to our rich Pennsylvania jazz history.
Creating a musical journey in jazz and the contribution our Common Wealth has had on America’s greatest art form.

The Keystone Jazz Septet features: trumpet master and Mansfield University associate professor, Dr. Eddie Severn. Mt. Bethel saxophonist and Yamaha clinician Nelson Hill, Pittsburg trombonist/ arranger Reggie Watkins and Pittsburg jazz guitar icon Marty Ashby. Also joining this all-star septet on piano is legendary Central PA Friends of Jazz founder, Steve Rudolph. Stroudsburg bassist Paul Rostock, credits include: Frank Sinatra Jr., Maynard Ferguson, Phil Woods as well as many others rounds out this amazing seven piece ensemble. The group is happy to also feature Lancaster jazz vocalist Amy Banks.

7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., join the Friends of Kings Gap in the Cameron-Masland Mansion for an outstanding evening of entertainment and refreshment. The Steve Rudolph Trio featuring saxophonist Jonathan Ragonese, bassist Kevin MacConnell will present jazz at its finest as you enjoy wine, cheese and heavy hors d'oeuvres.
