Since the advent of music streaming services, independent jazz artists cannot recoup expenses for recording projects by selling cds and now with the pandemic not being controlled, we have no live performance work as well. These are challenging times for all of us...all donations will go to the next recording project.

PRIVATE ENGAGEMENT

Erich Cawalla - The Great American Songbook Rescheduled CD Release Concert, Shillington PA

 —  —

Governor Mifflin HS

Versatile Jazz Vocalist and Saxophonist Erich Cawalla has teamed up with his hometown Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest to present a rescheduled CD Release Concert featuring songs of The Great American Songbook. The concert was originally scheduled to be presented in March 2020 but was put on extended hold due to Covid-19. This album has been a dream of Erich's since he started performing professionally at the age of 19. Produced by Bennie Sims, it features a 17-Piece traditional big band plus string orchestra performing some of the most memorable classics of the past 75 years. Featured Special Guests on the album include legendary Grammy-winning Trumpeter Randy Brecker, the immortal Leonard "Doc" Gibbs on percussion, and industry heavyweight and the "Lady in Red" Karen Briggs on violin, as well as some of the Northeast's most-versatile jazz musicians including Steve Rudolph, Bennie Sims, Larry McKenna, Frank DiBussolo, Rob Stoneback, Craig Kenney, Marko Marcinko, Tom Strohman, Dave Shultz, and many more! Erich would like to dedicate the release of this album to his arranger, good friend, and saxophone teacher David DePalma who recently passed away of pancreatic cancer. Dave's unique charts on this album are unmatched and it was his dream to be able to conduct this concert which will now go unfulfilled. Erich would also like to dedicate this album to Leonard "Doc" Gibbs who we also just lost in 2021 and his mentor Bobby Mercer, who took him under his wing in 1998 at such a young age and just passed away in October 2020. The concert will take place at Governor Mifflin Senior High School on the exact same stage that Erich started performing on as a freshman in 1994 as a highly involved member of the Governor Mifflin Music Department. The Governor Mifflin Senior High School Statesmen will open the show, the same group Erich performed with and won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in 1997, exactly 25 years before. All tickets are General Admission and are $15.00 a piece and $20.00 on day of show. Doors will open at 6:30 PM with the Statesmen taking the stage at 7:00 PM. ALL PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED TICKETS FROM THE 2020 ORIGINAL CONCERT WILL BE HONORED AT THIS CONCERT. IF YOU BOUGHT TICKETS AND ARE NOW UNABLE TO ATTEND, E-MAIL ERICHCAWALLA@COMCAST.NET TO REQUEST A REFUND. Erich looks forward to presenting his rendition of The Great American Songbook at this special Berks Jazz Fest Preview Show. www.erichcawalla.com / www.berksjazzfest.com
